In the 1890’s explorer Harold Bell Lasseter claimed to have found a rich gold reef in a remote part of the Central Australian desert. Years later in 1930, his search for the reef cost him his life. Gold seekers to this day have never found the reef.
The desert often comes alive with frogs after a good rain; if you are out in the ranges at this time the sound of them calling can be deafening. Five species of frogs inhabit the West MacDonnell Ranges, such as the Little Brown Tree Frog.
